Improved filly Winter Bride completed the first part of her winter mission on Saturday and is now headed to a bigger prize.

Winter Bride ($12) showed she had come back from a spell in fine fettle when she beat Prom Queen ($9) by 2-1/4 lengths with a short half head to Scallopini ($4.40) third in the Japan Association Plate (1200m) at Doomben.

A well-bred filly by top sire Not A Single Doubt, Winter Bride was sent to Queensland win some black type.

It looked a forlorn hope when she was struggling in provincial races after first arriving in the north but she was stakes placed during the summer carnival.'

However, Trent Edmonds, stable foreman for his father trainer Toby Edmond, said Winter Bride had bloomed since a spell.

"She was second in the Listed Mode Plate in the summer and she is an even stronger filly now. That was the first part of her winter mission, to get a city-class win," Edmonds said.
