A brief spell before another tilt at the Caulfield Cup awaits Boom Time after an impressive win at Caulfield.

Boom Time, part-owned by senior Lindsay Park trainer David Hayes, won last year's Caulfield Cup and recorded his first win since when he streeted his opposition in Saturday's Poitrel Hall Of Fame Trophy.

Saturday's victory was against far lesser opposition than the Melbourne and Japan Cups Boom Time contested following his Caulfield Cup win, but he impressed in the manner in which it was achieved.

A drifter in the market from $2.70 to $3.20 favouritism, Boom Time, under apprentice Lachie King, scored by 4-3/4 lengths from My Nordic Hero ($11) with Second Bullet ($9) two lengths away third.

Since Boom Time's arrival back in Australia following his Japan Cup assault last November, Lindsay Park has noticed a change in attitude from the gelding.

Junior co-trainer Ben Hayes said he held concerns when Boom Time hit the lead on straightening for home.

"They strung out the whole race and they ran along which made it a strong staying performance," Hayes said.

"The plan was to give him one or two runs in the autumn to give him a nice base and now we can give him a little spell and bring him back to defend his title in the Caulfield Cup."

The win on Boom Time provided King the second leg of his first Flemington double having scored earlier on Egyptian Bullet in the Karasi Hall Of Fame Trophy.

King, who at the last Flemington meeting on May 5 rode his first winner at the track, said Boom Time was the best horse he's ridden in his brief career.

"It's the most nervous I've been before a race," King said.

"I thought he was an absolute moral. I've never called one a moral before, but I thought he was one."
