Ben Currie transfers some stable horses

Thursday 31 May 2018, 3:06pm

Stewards have allowed suspended trainer Ben Currie to transfer horses he had nominated for Gatton and Toowoomba to other trainers to allow them to race.

Currie is currently suspended after fronting stewards on Monday when he was charged with 31 breaches of racing rules and he can't nominate or accept with horses until he gets a stay.

His stay application will be heard in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal on Friday morning.

Currie has pleaded not guilty and a stay would allow him to train until a final resolution of the charges.

He was unable to accept with horses for the Sunshine Coast on Saturday or nominate horses for the Gold Coast next Wednesday because of the timeline.

By transferring horses already nominated for Gatton on Saturday and Toowoomba on Sunday to other trainers they were able to accept with them before Thursday's deadline.

Toowoomba trainer Neville Saunders has most of the 18 horses transferred while Michael Nolan has some.

Currie had also tried to transfer some horses to his father Mark Currie who on Wednesday was given a stay on a two-year disqualification arising out of charges involving Ben Currie's stable.

"It was rejected on the ground stewards felt it was not appropriate," a QRIC spokesperson said.
