Violent Snow out to end year-long drought

Thursday 31 May 2018, 3:51pm

Trainer Jason Warren will be hoping history repeats when Violent Snow heads to Moonee Valley chasing an upset win.

Violent Snow runs in Saturday's Goodlife Essendon Handicap (1500m) having won the corresponding benchmark race for fillies and mares at Moonee Valley a year ago as a $26 chance.

That was the six-year-old's most recent victory.

Warren believes the get-back runner can go well on Saturday after two starts back from a spell over shorter distances.

"She'll get back and need a bit of luck in running," Warren said.

"She got it that day last year and it would be nice if she could do it again for us.

"She's going well. She's had a couple of fitness runs now and she'll run well on Saturday."

Violent Snow is one of the outsiders at $71, with the Richard Laming-trained Jamaican Rain the $1.95 favourite on Thursday.

Jamaican Rain won easily at Cranbourne first-up on May 11 and was entered for races in two states on Saturday but has already been scratched from Rosehill.

Along with Violent Snow, the Darren Weir-trained Camdus and Paul Preusker-trained Magic Consol also won at the corresponding meeting a year ago and are entered for Saturday.

Last-start winner Camdus was at $8 on Thursday for the WT Partnership Handicap (1200m) while Magic Consol was on the second line of betting at $5 for the Cafetto Kate O'Sullivan Mile.
