An Australian campaign is on the cards for promising New Zealand galloper Innovation, but whether she boosts the ranks of her compatriots in Brisbane or focuses on Sydney or Melbourne is yet to be decided.
Trainer Ralph Manning believes Innovation is back to the form that won her four on end this time last year and will be looking to confirm his opinion in the Rangiteki Gold Cup at Awapuni on Saturday.
"She's really improved after that last run and I think she'll show that this weekend," Manning said.
"If all goes well for her then we are thinking of heading to either Sydney or Melbourne for a short winter campaign on tracks there that suit her best."
Innovation is not considered a true New Zealand mudlark and her trainer is looking for conditions that are an improvement on those typically found at home during winter.
"There are some nice races in both Sydney and Melbourne that will suit her while some of the others are racing at the Brisbane carnival," Manning said.
Innovation has run in three Group One races this time in and appreciated the drop in class last start when third over 1400m at Awapuni on heavy 10 track.
Her best effort last time in came with her victory in the Listed Tauranga Classic (1600m), suggesting there could be some winter joy for her in Australia.
