Australian pair in good shape in Singapore

Monday 13 May 2013, 5:26pm

Australia's two runners in Sunday's Group One double in Singapore have arrived in perfect order and with a great friendship underway.

Bel Sprinter, who runs in the KrisFlyer International Sprint and Mawingo, a candidate for the International Cup at Kranji, landed on Sunday night and will begin light exercise on Tuesday.

Bel Sprinter's handler Mitch Beer said the pair had formed a solid bond while in pre-trip quarantine at trainer Jason Warren's Denistoun Park complex on the Mornington Peninsula which had helped them get through the trip in good condition.

"I couldn't be happier with how our horse travelled," Beer said.

"He ate hay all the way and drank plenty of water.

"He was a little tucked up when he got out of the crate, but looking at him this morning you wouldn't know that he's travelled."

Mawingo, the winner this time last year of the Doomben Cup will remain in Singapore after Sunday's race with Michael Freedman taking over from his brother Anthony who trained him in Australia.

"He's a nice horse and has travelled up very well," said Freedman who saw the horse for the first time on Sunday.

"Having the other horse with him certainly made the trip a lot easier."

"We'll know a bit more about him as the week goes on."

Freedman said Mawingo was likely to go for a light canter on the Kranji Polytrack on Tuesday morning and again on Wednesday.

"I don't think he's going to need too much," said Freedman.

"I'm treating the flight up as almost a race, so I'll just keep him ticking over and keep him fresh and happy."

Mawingo will be attempting to follow in the shoes of Mummify who won the International Cup for the Freedman brothers in 2005.
