Boss claims Victorian prize money record

Thursday 23 May 2013, 5:07pm

Glen Boss is closing in on his first jockeys' premiership but on Thursday he notched a significant achievement of another kind.

Boss set a new record for a jockey for prize money earned on Victorian racetracks during a season, despite going winless at the Ballarat meeting.

The champion jockey's fourth placing in his final ride on the card took the total prize money earned by his mounts in the 2012-13 racing season to $9,216,360.

The previous mark of $9,215,040 was set by Damien Oliver in 2001-2002.

Boss is a clear leader in the Melbourne jockeys' premiership with 64 wins, 21 ahead of his nearest rival.

He has ridden 99 winners across Victoria this season with his biggest success coming in the Cox Plate on Ocean Park.
