Godolphin imports jockeys for Caulfield

Wednesday 10 October 2018, 8:52am

Pat Cosgrave and James Doyle will fly from Europe to Melbourne to ride leading Godolphin contenders in Group One races at Caulfield.

Cosgrave will be aboard the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Benbatl in Saturday's Caulfield Stakes (2000m) while Doyle will ride Blair House in the race for trainer Charlie Appleby.

Doyle will also be reunited with the Appleby-trained Jungle Cat in the Toorak Handicap after they combined to win the Group One Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes last month.

He will extend his Australian trip to Sunday to ride last year's Cox Plate minor placegetter Folkswood who will be aiming for back-to-back wins in the Listed Cranbourne Cup.

Cosgrave is expected to stay in Melbourne to ride Best Solution in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday week.

"Pat Cosgrave is flying down to ride Benbatl at Caulfield. The reports I have received about the horse are good. We are very happy with him, and Saturday's race should set him up nicely for the Cox Plate," bin Suroor said on the Godolphin website.

Cosgrave has won two Group One races on Best Solution in Germany this year.
