Encouragement from an up-and-coming jockey and an unwavering belief in the talent of I'm Ready For This has trainer John Ledger setting his sights on city success at Sandown on Saturday.
Ledger has two-year-old I'm Ready For This in the Samson Handicap (1200m) on the back of a five-length Wodonga maiden win at the colt's first start.
A push from jockey Damian Lane was enough for Ledger to accept with the son of More Than Ready on Saturday rather than look to an easier race.
"Damian was very keen for me to go this week, he liked the way he was racing and said we shouldn't run away from this race," Ledger said.
Lane has won 23 city races this season and he partnered I'm Ready For This in his easy debut win.
"And from my own knowledge I believe he should measure up pretty well," Ledger said.
Ledger has removed winkers and added blinkers to I'm Ready For This for Saturday's race.
The Wangaratta-based Ledger, who trains in partnership with his son Chris, believes I'm Ready For This is showing as much as the likes of Mind Your Head and Soleil at the same stage, with both those horses winning Melbourne stakes races during their careers.
I'm Ready For This is on the third line of betting behind the Peter Moody-trained Mystical Miss and Samaready's half-sister Samarmeteors.
Ledger also has four-year-old Unscrupulous stepping up to Open mares' company for the first time in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1400m) and was encouraged by her last-start third at Sandown.
"She's the sort of mare that could easily place in her first crack at open company," he said.
