Trainer Chris Waller is leaving nothing to chance as he waits on Stradbroke Handicap start for talented sprinter Riva De Lago.
Riva De Lago is a dual acceptor for Saturday's Listed June Stakes (1200m) at Randwick and the Group One Stradbroke (1400m) at Eagle Farm for which he is first emergency.
But connections have decided to roll the dice and send Riva De Lago to Brisbane, pinning their hopes on a Stradbroke scratching to secure the backmarker a berth in Brisbane's premier race.
"He's the first emergency in the Stradbroke and I don't want a phone call on Saturday morning saying he's got a run and we have to speak to QANTAS to get him up there ... which we wouldn't," Waller said.
"We'll send him there tonight, providing the weather forecast isn't too bad. I'll have to check that out but at this stage he'll be going to Queensland and sweating on getting a run.
"If he doesn't get a start he'll run in the Healy Stakes in two weeks over 1200."
With Riva De Lago to miss the June Stakes, Waller will rely on smart mare She's Clean in the feature Sydney sprint.
The outside draw in gate 18 has dented the leading trainer's confidence and luck in the run will be crucial.
"She will need luck to win but I just want to see her hitting the line strongly because she will go to the Tatt's Tiara in two weeks time over 1400," Waller said.
"We'll just get back and attack the line and if luck comes her way she can win."
She's Clean has built a better-than-average strike-rate with seven wins from 15 starts.
Included among them is her Triscay Stakes victory in February when she claimed the scalp of multiple Group One winner Appearance.
She's Clean showed she had come back in good order with a first-up win at Randwick last month.
