Top Brisbane jockey Jim Byrne will have a better idea of how long he will be sidelined with a shoulder injury next week.
Byrne underwent an operation on a shoulder last Wednesday and has been at home recuperating since.
He injured his shoulder in a track work fall last month but felt he had recovered.
However, the injury became worse when he rode Garibaldi to a win at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.
"I only went about five strides after the start and I knew something was really wrong," Byrne said.
Byrne said he had in effect torn the bicep away from the shoulder and had also done ligament damage
"I had a shoulder reconstruction but only spent the night in hospital before heading home," he said.
"I go back to the doctor on Tuesday and I should have an idea of the recuperative work needed after that and how long it will take."
Byrne said doctors had predicted he would be out for up to six months but he hoped it would be closer to three.
