Vincere Volare chases prize money boost

Smart filly Vincere Volare can ease the pressure to qualify for the big Sydney autumn races by winning the Qld Chinese Jockey Club 2YO Plate at Doomben.

Trainer Tony Gollan resisted the temptation to take the filly to Sydney for the $2 million Inglis Millennium last Saturday and instead set his sights on Saturday's race.

Vincere Volare won her only start at Doomben in November and picked up $42,500 in prize money.

The Plate is worth $75,000 to the winner and Gollan feels the $112,000 total would be a big step towards getting into races such as the Golden Slipper on March 23.

"I have also nominated her for the Sires' Produce over 1400m. A few of the favourites have earned money from restricted races which doesn't count towards the Group Ones down there," Gollan said.

"If we can get more prize money on Saturday it will ease the pressure on us. For all that, she will have to race well on Saturday to head to Sydney.

"I want to make certain we have the right filly to go and that means racing well here. There is always our winter for her."

Vincere Volare has had two barrier trials in preparation for her comeback, winning the first at Doomben three weeks ago.

Gollan then took her to the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday where she narrowly beat stablemate Perudo in a trial.

Vincere Volare sat behind the leaders and then pulled wide on the track to hit the lead and coast to the line.

"She didn't win by much but she did what we wanted to be ready for Saturday," Gollan said.

"I like to give my two-year-olds a hit-out on the Tuesday before a Saturday race and provided she draws a half decent barrier she will be hard to beat at Doomben."
