Top jockey Ben Melham showed his confidence rounding the home turn before That's The One proved him right in the fourth heat of the Winter Championship at Flemington on Saturday.
That's The One travelled sweetly for Melham throughout the race before the rider had two sustained looks over his right shoulder, looking for any likely dangers to his mount.
The $3 favourite quickened when Melham asked him for an effort before striding to the line 1-1/4 lengths ahead of Another Prelate ($9) and By The Way ($7.50).
"I was happy knowing that I was on the best horse, keep him out of trouble and let his ability do the rest," he said.
That's The One's success was his first since he won the Group Three CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) in February last year but co-trainer Cindy Alderson said a throat problem had prevented the four-year-old producing his best.
Alderson, who trains That's The One in partnership with her father Colin, said the issue needed surgery but the son of Snippetson was now able to race consistently.
"He had a wind op and that held him back last spring. I think he was going to be one of our better three-year-olds," Alderson said.
"He'd always been a little noisy in the wind and it just progressively got worse but it didn't get bad enough to do the operation until last spring."
Alderson said That's The One would progress to the Listed Winter Championship Final (1600m) at Flemington on July 6.
