Moody pleased with Cup draws

Wednesday 17 October 2012, 2:37pm

Trainer Peter Moody declared he had the best of all worlds covered following the barrier draw for Saturday's Caulfield Cup.

Moody's mare Lights of Heaven drew best with gate eight for the $2.5 million Group One over 2400 metres and immediately firmed from $12 to $11.

Italian imports Sneak a Peek and Voila Ici drew barriers 10 and 17 respectively.

"I'm not too displeased with any of them," Moody said.

The trainer said he was confident he had prime opportunities whichever way the race is run.

"Voila Ici goes forward, Lights of Heaven sits just off the pace and Sneak a Peak's back so I've probably got the best of three worlds covered," he said.

Glencadam Gold, the Gai Waterhouse-trained $4.50 favourite, drew the second outside gate and Moody added to earlier doubts he cast on the gelding's Caulfield Cup potential.

"Caulfield has proved a graveyard for a lot of horses over the years but he looks a very exciting horse," Moody said.

"How you rate that Sydney staying form to down here I'm not sure but I'm confident that it can carry through Lights of Heaven so I couldn't be doubting Glencadam Gold's form.

"(But) he has appeared to have got it quite soft in his runs in Sydney up and on the pace.

"I can't see that being the case here on Saturday."

He said he was confident Voila Ici would prove hard to topple if the race developed into a shoot-out between the pair.

"We won't be stopping or starting or playing games. Our bloke just rolls and continually builds tempo so we won't be dictated to by any horse in the race.

"All I do know is that if Glencadam Gold does lead Voila Ici he's going to be going at a very frantic pace," he said.

"I think my big advantage is my three are playing at home and they're fit, well and happy - so if they get beat they're not good enough."
