Red Cadeaux Cup ride available

Wednesday 17 October 2012, 2:35pm

English trainer Ed Dunlop has put out the call for an Australian jockey to ride Red Cadeaux when he tries to go one better in this year's Melbourne Cup.

Just edged out by Dunaden last year when ridden by Michael Rodd, Red Cadeaux is due in Melbourne on Saturday.

Speaking on Sydney's Sky Sports Radio, Dunlop said no jockey had yet been booked and he was looking for a local.

"We've had lots of people contact us wanting to ride the horse. Those who are still interested after Saturday better contact us again," Dunlop said.

"Any jockeys or jockeys' agents listening, they can send me a text.

"We will be using a local jock unless something changes."

Dunlop said he was happy with how well Red Cadeaux was handling quarantine in England ahead of his departure for Australia where the Melbourne Cup on November 6 will be his first start since July.

"There wasn't a suitable race before we came out," Dunlop said.

"He has had a good holiday and runs very well fresh.

"He thrived in Australia (last year). He loved being on his own and loves being in quarantine now.

"He is a better horse this year but he has more weight and it's potentially a better Cup than last year.

Red Cadeaux is a $17 chance for the Melbourne Cup with Mount Athos the TAB's $6 favourite ahead of Glencadam Gold, an easing favourite for Saturday's Caulfield Cup after drawing a wide barrier.
