Decision still pending on Caviar mate

Wednesday 12 June 2013, 11:45am

Champion Black Caviar's owners have about half a dozen stallions in mind to breed with their undefeated mare, but have not yet made their final decision.

Part-owner David Taylor told AAP they were getting closer to making their choice.

"We're whittling it down but we haven't made a final decision yet," Taylor told AAP.

"We have shortlists.

"We're not releasing the list but there is a good half a dozen on that list at the moment.

"We've eliminated other ones."

The champion sprinter retired undefeated in April with 25 wins from 25 starts, a record Taylor said had been their aim.

"We're very, very grateful we were able to retire her undefeated, that was our aim," Mr Taylor said.

"Now we're very excited about where we go forward with the breeding and what the outcome of that is."
