Ballarat card switched to synthetic track

Wednesday 29 May 2019, 5:20pm

Wet weather has forced the transfer of a Ballarat turf meeting to the new synthetic track.

Racing Victoria announced on Wednesday that Sunday's turf meeting would switch to the all-weather track following a stewards inspection.

The turf track has received 37mm of rain over the past week and more than 140mm for the week.

Stewards were concerned with an area of the track between the winning post and 1700m would not dry out and the decision was made to transfer the meeting before acceptances on Thursday.

RV considered other turf options in the region, however the racing program, the impact of wet weather and track maintenance requirements meant there were no other suitable venues.

Sunday's meeting on the Polytrack will be the third in seven days after racing on May 27 and again on May 30.
