Queensland trainers are hoping to resolve problems with delays in prize money payments after a recent increase in horses being disqualified.

Prize money cannot be released to the connections of promoted runners until all avenues of appeal are heard.

Trainers are concerned horses that have been awarded improved placings after another's disqualification are being promoted a grade without being paid.

The issue has come into focus with several horses trained by Ben Currie recently disqualified for races dating back nearly two years.

The problem is further accentuated by delays in internal review appeals in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

The secretary of the Queensland branch of the Australian Trainers Association, Cameron Partington, said he had raised the problem with Racing Queensland which is hoping to resolve the issue.

"One of the delays seems to be the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission sending paperwork to RQ which is a separate entity," he said.

Partington said trainers had also raised the issue of splitting races after more horses missed runs in the 1000m-race at Eagle Farm on Saturday than got a start.

The problem has arisen because only 12 horses can start from the 1000m which was relocated in the track redevelopment.

Partington said RQ had pointed out there were options away from Eagle Farm which was being nursed back to full use.
