Redzel going for three Everest wins

Sunday 23 June 2019, 3:20pm

Redzel will get his chance to win a third Everest with confirmation Yulong Investments has again chosen him as its representative in the $14 million sprint.

Yulong, headed by Yuesheng Zhang, has decided to stick with Redzel who has won the first two runnings of The Everest, running in James Harron's slot in 2017.

Owned by Triple Crown Syndications and trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Redzel has not won since his Everest success last October.

"The Everest is now established as the premier sprint race in the world and to be fortunate enough to have won this race two times already has just blown our minds," Triple Crown's Chris Ward said.

"We are forever grateful to have had the opportunity to partake in this amazing race, let alone win it twice.

"The journey and experiences that we have shared with our owners, Kerrin (McEvoy), Peter and Paul and indeed the whole Snowden Racing staff, have been out of this world."

Yulong Investments is a relative newcomer to Australian racing and has already made a significant investment in the industry.

Redzel is the seventh horse confirmed for the 12-horse Everest, the others being Santa Ana Lane (TAB), In Her Time (Inglis), Pierata (Aquis), Arcadia Queen (The Star), Classique Legend (Bon Ho and Carmel Size Racing) and Sunlight (Max Whitby and Neil Werrett).

Racing NSW is expected to announce this week what will happen to the slot held by Damion Flower who remains in custody pending the hearing of drug importation charges.

Although Redzel had a less than stellar autumn, Peter Snowden said he had spelled well and he expected him to bounce back in the spring.

McEvoy has ridden Redzel to both his Everest wins but is also the regular rider of the up-and-coming Les Bridge-trained Classique Legend.
