They're not all snipers, but for the most part they are a hit in the wet.
And trainer Tracey Bartley is hoping that trend continues at Canterbury on Wednesday when he saddles up Slick Sniper in the Gabby's Birthday Handicap (1900m).
Bartley has put the polish on four horses out of broodmare Yallah Terrace with the recently retired multiple Group One winner Sniper's Bullet the obvious star.
Three of the siblings have won on wet tracks and Slick Sniper is arguably the most prolific mudlark of the trio with six wins and seven placings from 25 starts in slow or heavy ground.
While Slick Sniper has not won for more than a year and is rising nine, Bartley says the gelding is in as good a shape as ever.
"I've been riding him in work and I can't fault him," Bartley said.
"We'll roll forward on top of the speed and (apprentice) Rachael Murray rides well.
"If he is anywhere near his old form he will be hard to beat."
Canterbury was rated in the heavy range on Tuesday with a track inspection on race morning track to determine if the meeting goes ahead.
Rain washed out the final five races at Randwick on Saturday and forced the abandonment of Tuesday's Warwick Farm meeting.
Bartley doesn't believe Sydney racing should be at the mercy of the weather and is a fan of building a synthetic surface in the metropolitan area.
"We've had a lot of rain but it's time we moved with the times and got a synthetic track," Bartley said.
"I don't have a venue in mind but they can't rip up Canterbury because it's the best one we've got.
"Maybe they could build one at Rosehill. But they've got to do something, it is ridiculous (losing meetings) in this day and age."
