Scone trainer Greg Bennett is banking on a $200,000 race in Queensland lacking the depth of one in Sydney half its value as he confirms weekend plans for Kaypers.
Bennett will run Kaypers in the Caloundra Cup in preference to the $100,000 Winter Cup at Rosehill.
"I'm thinking the race at Caloundra, it may not stack up quite as strong as Sydney and it's worth a bit more than the Winter Cup," Bennett said.
In work since the end of last year, Kaypers shows no sign of training off.
He ran on against the pattern when placed in last month's Scone Cup and then closed late when third to Destiny's Kiss at Rosehill.
With an accomplished record in the wet, Kaypers would have been right at home in the expected soggy ground at Rosehill but Bennett said the stayer shouldn't be pigeon-holed as a mudlark.
"He's pretty versatile," the trainer said. "He's won half his races on good to dead tracks and the other half on slow to heavy so it doesn't really worry him."
Kaypers is on the limit of 54kg in the Caloundra Cup and Paul Hammersley will take the ride.
Three other horses, headed by last-start Stayers Cup winner Peal Of Bells, are also nominated for both races.
The Peter Moody-trained import Voila Ici heads Caloundra Cup weights with 59.5kg ahead of Rothera and Zabeelionaire on 57kg.
Belltone and River Lad share 59kg topweight in the Glasshouse Handicap where other entries include Riva De Lago (58.5kg) and Phelan Ready (57.5kg)
There are 29 nominations for the Sunshine Coast Guineas with interstate entries headed by Dances On Stars (Gerald Ryan) and Eximius (Mick Price).
