Bashboy could find himself at the famous Cheltenham Festival in England after reinforcing his status as Australia's best steeplechaser at Warrnambool on Sunday.
The nine-year-old was asked to carry 71.5kg to defend the $100,000 Thackeray Steeplechase (3450m) and jumped cleanly under champion rider Steve Pateman to beat Cats Fun by two lengths.
Pateman said he had no doubts Bashboy would be ideally suited by a 4800m steeplechase at the famous English jumps festival and rated him the best `chaser he had ever ridden.
Bashboy is unbeaten in five steeplechase runs, with seven wins in total from eight starts over jumps, and trainer Ciaron Maher said he was open to the idea of racing him overseas.
"After the Grand National (Steeplechase) last year I sort of launched that idea but the connections and myself decided to stay here," Maher said.
"You never know, well see what happens next year.
"Today was one of the best displays of actual jumping that he's ever shown."
The immediate target for Bashboy is the Crisp Steeplechase (3900m) at Sandown on July 14 ahead of a return to the track for the $250,000 Grand National Steeplechase (4500m) two weeks later.
"He's an ideal type of horse to take overseas," Pateman said.
"He'll run three miles (4800m) and he's the best steeplechaser that I've ever ridden."
Earlier, Wells exacted revenge on Gotta Take Care in the $100,000 Kevin Lafferty Hurdle (3600m).
The Kathryn Durden-trained five-year-old suffered his only defeat over jumps when second to Gotta Take Care in the Brendon Dreschler Hurdle at Bendigo two weeks earlier.
His fourth hurdle start brought the desired result as he overhauled 2012 winner Gotta Take Care to beat him by 2-1/4 lengths.
The Grand National Hurdle at the end of July is the target for Wells.
Macedonian finished third in the Lafferty with Black And Bent fourth.
