Boss cleared for riding return after test

Tuesday 9 July 2013, 5:39pm

Melbourne's champion jockey-in-waiting Glen Boss has come through a solid morning on the training track fully fit and ready to return to race riding at Caulfield on Saturday.

Boss had surgery on his left knee while serving a month-long suspension and put the repairs to the test for the first time at trackwork on Tuesday.

"It's a bit stiff, but improving every day," Boss said.

"By Saturday it'll be the best it's been in years.

"It's had a good workout this morning and feels fine."

Boss expects to have up to six rides at Saturday's Monash Stakes meeting, none of which will have any bearing on the result of the Melbourne jockeys' premiership that has been safely in his keeping since halfway through the season.

Boss, 43, is 19 wins clear of reigning champion rider Luke Nolen with only three weeks of the season remaining and is certain to collect the first riding title of his career.

Fellow rider Mark Zahra continues his search for a comeback city winner at Caulfield after having surgery on both hips earlier this year.

Zahra has ridden three winners on provincial tracks, including a double at Seymour on Saturday, after resuming last month from seven months out of the saddle.
