Boom Chicka Boom set to fly at Gold Coast

Friday 3 January 2020, 1:50pm

A big turnaround in the weights gives speedy Boom Chicka Boom the chance to claim bragging rights as the fastest short-course horse in Queensland when he runs at the Gold Coast.

Boom Chicka Boom will be having his first start since winning at the Gold Coast in August when he lines up on his home track again in Saturday's Open Handicap (900m).

The race is a rematch of the trifecta in the last Bat Out Of Hell which is run over 900m on the Gold Coast each year as the unofficial short-course championship of Queensland.

In the Bat Out Of Hell in May, Tycoon Ace beat Spurcraft with Boom Chicka Boom third.

In Saturday's race Boom Chicka Boom meets Tycoon Ace four kilograms better and Spurcraft two kilograms better.

All of Boom Chicka Boom's starts at the Gold Coast have been at 900m with his record standing at five runs for three wins and two minor placings.

Trainer Les Kelly said Boom Chicka Boom said barrier seven of 12 was tricky but the weight advantage should help.

"He has won a trial and Glen Boss has agreed to ride him so he is ready to go," Kelly said.

By All Too Hard out of Stolen Beauty, Boom Chicka Boom is a half-brother to 2013 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Real Surreal.

Another of his half-brothers is Benny's Buttons who won the 2010 Group Three Vo Rogue Plate.
