Button chasing a change of Brisbane luck

Friday 17 January 2020, 10:58am

The shock win of Little Spoon at $101 at Mackay could be a pointer to a change of luck for trainer Tom Button at Eagle Farm.

Button trained Little Spoon but transferred her to Rockhampton-based Basil Ryan to continue her racing in central Queensland.

Button retained ownership of Little Spoon who scored an impressive win at Mackay on Wednesday.

Button is hoping the luck holds for honest filly Miss Lot Won as she chases her first city win on Saturday.

Miss Lot Won will be joined by her stablemate Goodbye Earl in the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm.

Button claimed his first metropolitan winner with The Tax Accountant at Doomben in August.

The former leading trainer in central Queensland who is now based at Caloundra, Button has trained 11 winners this season but another Saturday metropolitan victory has eluded him.

Miss Lot Won has been typical of Button's luck as she has raced well against some of the best two-year-olds without winning.

At her last start Miss Lot Won was third to eventual Magic Millions Classic winner Away Game in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes at Doomben on December 18.

Miss Lot Won has raced five times for a Rockhampton win and three Brisbane placings.

"She also has form around Dusty Tycoon who has been one of the best early season two-year-olds in Brisbane," Button said.

He has built his team up to 25 and has six runners at Eagle Farm on Saturday which is his biggest representation at a meeting since moving to Brisbane.
