The 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring has drawn level with Northern Meteor in the race for Australian first-season sire honours.
In a contest that has fluctuated for most of the racing season, Sebring brought up his 16th individual winner when Longma announced his arrival as a spring contender with a runaway win at Werribee on Wednesday.
Longma, a half-brother to last year's Coolmore Classic winner Ofcourseican and the South African Group One winner Gimmethegreenlight, could not have been more impressive in posting an eighth-length winning margin.
It was enough for trainer Mick Price to declare the youngster a stakes horse.
"He's very smart, very impressive," Price told TVN. "A Group horse coming."
Befitting a reputation of an above-average racehorse after two Perth barrier trial wins, Longma was sent out the $1.85 favourite to make a winning debut.
Longma travelled easily in front for jockey Craig Newitt and extended brilliantly in the straight.
He posted 1:06.47 for the 1100m on a heavy track, a time marginally faster than the three-year-old filly Danapaise recorded in the first race.
"He just put himself in cruise control and was never going to lose," Newitt said.
Price said the colt would be set for the $1 million Caulfield Guineas.
Longma is raced by West Australian owner Craig Thompson and his Mt Hallowell Stud Syndicate.
Sebring and Northern Meteor stand alongside each other at Widden Stud in the NSW Hunter Valley.
Among the mare's confirmed to visit Sebring during the 2013 breeding season will be last Sunday's Singapore Derby winner Better Life.
