Boilover winner one week. Odds-on favourite the next.
With expectations of a rain-affected track, that's the sudden improvement in status for Tuskegee Hawk ahead of the Sky Racing Handicap (2200m) at Eagle Farm.
Tuskegee Hawk was offside with punters at Doomben last Saturday when she scored a last-stride win as a $17 chance, confirming her reputation in the wet.
But she is already a clear-cut $1.70 favourite to enhance her standing as a genuine mudlark on Saturday.
Trainer Len Treloar acknowledges Tuskegee Hawk needs a rain-affected surface to be competitive in Saturday grade.
"She's raced a few times on dry tracks and does have a tendency to jar up so I think it's fair to say her best form is wet form and she enjoys that type of going," he said.
"If she can get the conditions to suit again on Saturday I'm sure she can repeat her Doomben performance."
While Tuskegee Hawk's win was a surprise to some, Treloar expected an improved showing on her lead-up form.
"I said to Chris Munce before I legged him on last start to ignore her form because she was working well but had no luck in her races," he said.
"Race tempo and track bias were working against her and it had been frustrating driving home from races when she's had no luck.
"At Doomben she was lovely and bright in the eye, nice and calm and relaxed and I thought when I was saddling her up she would run a very good race."
While track conditions are expected to suit Tuskegee Hawk at Eagle Farm, Treloar is desperate for the race to be run at a strong tempo.
"When she won last week the tempo of the race was perfect for her and it just allowed her to drop back and come with her one run down the centre of the track which is how she likes to race," he said.
"She doesn't like these stop-start races because it upsets her rhythm and momentum."
Treloar said there were no plans to retire Tuskegee Hawk to stud in the spring.
He said she would continue to race in her current campaign for as long as the tracks were rain-affected.
