Mark Zahra to miss Australian Guineas day

Thursday 20 February 2020, 11:45am

Mark Zahra's appeal against the severity of a careless riding suspension has been unsuccessful, with the jockey to miss the Australian Guineas meeting.

Zahra was banned for careless riding aboard Lightning Stakes winner Gytrash at Flemington last Saturday.

He lodged an appeal against the severity of the eight-meeting penalty, hoping to get one day shaved off to allow him to compete in the Australian Guineas at Flemington on Saturday week.

The Victorian Racing Tribunal dismissed Zahra's appeal on Thursday.

Zahra's suspension starts after he rides at Saturday's Caulfield meeting where his feature race rides include second favourite Rulership in the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes and Caulfield Guineas winner Super Seth in the Group One Futurity Stakes.
