Fierce Impact tops All-Star emergency list

Tuesday 25 February 2020, 6:44pm

Dual Group One winner Fierce Impact heads the list of provisional emergency runners for the All-Star Mile at Caulfield and is also in line for a wild card.

Last week the 10 most popular horses voted by the public were announced leaving five spots open.

Streets Of Avalon cemented his berth with his win in the Group One Futurity Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday while the winner of this Saturday's Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington will also be offered a spot.

The remaining three positions will be announced by Racing Victoria on March 2.

Connections of 21 of the original nominations who missed selection in last week's top 10 have confirmed they want their horses to remain in contention for a spot as one of four emergencies when the final field is declared on March 10.

The four emergencies will not be given a barrier and take the starting position of a scratching, if there is one.

Should any of the top 10 voted horses, or any of the five wildcard entries announced on March 2, withdraw from the All-Star before final acceptances, that position will go to the first emergency.

The Matthew Smith-trained Fierce Impact runs in Saturday's Group One Chipping Norton Stakes and could still get in to the All-Star Mile as a wild card.

He heads the emergencies having amassed the highest eligible prize money through his Group One wins in the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield and Cantala Stakes at Flemington last spring.

The James Cummings-trained Godolphin gallopers Alizee, Avilius and Flit hold the next three spots.
