Outstanding racehorse and noted producer Romanee Conti has died at the age of 24 at Pencarrow Stud in New Zealand.

The winner of the 1992 Emancipation Stakes and Queen Of The Turf Stakes, Romanee Conti also won the 1993 Hong Kong International Cup in which she beat that year's Caulfield Cup winner Fraar and Urban Sea, the mother of Galileo and See The Stars.

Romanee Conti was trained throughout her career by Laurie Laxon.

She went on to achieve as much fame as a broodmare as she did as a racehorse, producing the 2001 Caulfield and Melbourne Cup winner Ethereal who was trained by Laxon's former wife Sheila.
