Plunge horse withdrawn in Ireland

Tuesday 23 July 2013, 7:07am

A betting plunge in Ireland has come unstuck with stewards withdrawing the horse amid questions over his registered trainer.

An unraced gelding, Like A Diamond opened at 50-1 before he was rapidly shortened, reaching a low of 11-4 with Paddy Power for the maiden race at Ballinrobe.

The stewards received a report from their security officer which stated Like A Diamond was not trained at the registered licensed premises of Sharon Dunphy but at another stable nearby.

Evidence was heard from Dunphy, who accepted the report, as well as groom Fabian Burke who had entered the stable yard on a temporary pass to work for Dunphy at the meeting.

Having considered the report and evidence, the stewards ordered the withdrawal of Like A Diamond and referred the matter to the Irish Turf Club.
