International Group One winner Bayrir is set to make his Australian debut in the Listed Winter Challenge Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
Bayrir has been given the highest rating of the 15 entries of 103 with last-start Winter Stakes winner Under The Sun on 100.
Trainer Chris Waller entered Bayrir for the Winter Stakes (1400m) on July 20 but opted to miss that race and give him a second barrier trial instead.
He ran a pleasing third under Jim Cassidy in the 1030m heat at Rosehill last Monday.
"The plan is to run Bayrir in the 1500 metre Listed race," Waller said.
Bayrir was formerly in the care of Alain de Royer-Dupre, trainer of 2010 Melbourne Cup winner Americain, and won the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington last August.
In addition to his United States Group One, Bayrir also has three wins in his native France from 1800 to 2100 metres.
His last start for de Royer-Dupre was a midfield finish in the Hong Kong Vase (2400m) in December after which he was bought by Graham and Linda Huddy, the owners of multiple Group One winner Shoot Out who is also trained by Waller.
Warwick Farm trainer David Vandyke will add some more French flavour to the Winter Challenge Stakes with Less Is More a confirmed starter.
His imported stablemate Prince Cheri is not likely to run and Vandyke will make a decision later in the week which of three races new acquisition Fill The Page runs in on Saturday.
Less Is More and Prince Cheri were imported by stable client Angelo Vasili and both have already won races in Australia.
"Prince Cheri will have a barrier trial at Randwick on Friday instead and race the following week," Vandyke said. "With a 103 rater in the race he is disadvantaged at the weights.
"Less Is More will run. There is a lot of upside to him. I think we've worked out he's not a genuine European stayer but will be effective up to 2000 metres."
There were 15 entries taken on Monday for the Winter Challenge, the feature of Sydney's first meeting of the new season.
