Papa Jo once again number one at Doomben

Saturday 9 May 2020, 11:55am

Speedy Papa Jo again showed his liking for barrier one with an all-the-way win at Doomben.

Papa Jo has now won seven races and five have been from barrier one.

He again drew the coveted inside barrier and despite dipping at the start was too slick in the TAB Handicap (1050m).

Trainer Lindsay Hatch trains at Toowoomba and once racing was cut into zones he originally could only run horses in the southern metropolitan zone based around the Gold Coast and not in Brisbane.

Racing Queensland modified the rules so all trainers could run their horses in Brisbane and Gold Coast metropolitan races as of this week.

Hatch said it was good for Papa Jo that he was able to race in Brisbane again because there were more suitable races for him in the area.

"He is very quick out of the barriers and he does like the number one marble," Hatch said.

"Papa Jo is getting up in the ratings and we will have to look for something around the same trip."
