Dissolution scores first win in two years

Saturday 9 May 2020, 12:39pm

Former stakes performer Dissolution finally returned to something like his best form to score his first win in more than two years.

Dissolution ($5) was given the run of the race by jockey Jake Bayliss before hanging on to win in a four-way finish to the Mittys Handicap (2020m) at Doomben.

It was the gelding's first win which he completed back-to-back victories at Warwick Farm in March, 2018.

Dissolution showed plenty of ability as a younger horse when trained by the Hawkes partnership in Sydney.

He ran second in the 2017 Listed Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast as a two-year-old and later that year was also second in the Listed Dulcify Stakes at Randwick.

However, when his form dropped away Dissolution was sent to David Vandyke's stable's on the Sunshine Coast.

Vandyke said the now five-year-old had been something of a "thinker" in recent times.

"But today Jake (Bayliss) gave him a good ride and he responded," he said.

"Dissolution has some strong breeding being by top sire Snitzel and there should be more races for him in Queensland."
