No birthday gift for Vicario

Tuesday 30 July 2013, 4:39pm

Trainer Mick Price believes he is owed a win by his talented galloper Vicario - and he's hoping she can overcome the vagaries of the racing calender and deliver it at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Price had Vicario in the right race and ready to win at Caulfield last weekend, but a training track mishap the day before forced him to scratch the filly and wait for another opportunity.

"She dropped the rider here on Friday morning and bolted, so I had to scratch her," Price said.

The Caulfield race went to the in-form filly Octavia who Vicario had comfortably beaten at her previous run.

While Vicario's form stands up well enough, she was a three-year-old filly last week and on Saturday she will be a four-year-old mare and will have to race against older horses in a 0-90 handicap over 1200m.

"That was probably her race at Caulfield," Price said.

"She was against her own age and sex and her form around Octavia is very good.

"I thought she had a great chance of beating her again.

"She'll run well, but it's might be the wrong race for her."

In Vicario's favour is the moderate class of race in which Peter Moody's recent acquisition Kneeling makes her return to Melbourne.

A former member of Nathan Tinkler's Patinack Farm team, Kneeling has appreciated the drop from black type racing since being transferred to Moody, winning at her only two starts for her new trainer in Queensland.

But a doubt exists over Kneeling's appearance in the race with Moody saying she would only run if she draws well.

Moody also has Meliora nominated for the race, but will keep her for the Spring Stakes in Adelaide next weekend.
