Epsom Handicap runner-up Ambidexter has taken to his new surroundings in Melbourne and will put his Emirates Stakes credentials on show in Saturday's Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley.

Paul Snowden, Melbourne stable foreman for his father Peter, said Ambidexter was "jumping out of his skin" ahead of the Cox Plate day support race.

"He's suited at a mile and kept fresh," Snowden said.

"He's jumping out of his skin at the moment. He'll have a nice piece of work (at Flemington) in the morning and hopefully we can present well on game-day and draw a good gate.

"The Emirates Stakes (two weeks after the Crystal Mile) is his grand final."

Ambidexter has been given a couple of weeks to settle into Melbourne in his first trip to Victoria.

"He came down straight after the Epsom so he's been here a couple of weeks and he's settled in great," Paul Snowden said.

"He went to Moonee Valley last Thursday. He worked with Mental just to give them a look at the track and they both handled it without any worries so that's why we elected not to go back tomorrow (for Breakfast with the Best)."

Ambidexter is a full-brother to Skilled and will be out to join his older sibling as a Group One winner in the Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

He went close to claiming the Epsom but was beaten a head by Fat Al.

"When he had to peel off heels at about the 300-metre mark, it probably cost him from winning," Snowden said.

"It was only a head in it and we had to stop and get going again. That was probably the difference between winning and losing."

Talented stablemate Mental will run in Friday night's Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
