Apprentice Alisha Taylor was quick to thank fellow jockey Rachel Mason after she scored the biggest win of her career at Doomben on Saturday.
Caloundra-based Taylor came from near last aboard Equissential ($12) to beat Epic Terra ($7) by a short half-head in the Coke Zero Handicap (1640m).
The favourite Cuddlesome ($2.10) was a long head back in third place.
Taylor is apprenticed to her father Garnet Taylor and they moved from Rockhampton in central Queensland about 12 months ago.
Since then she has ridden 15 winners but had been aboard only two previous Saturday metropolitan winners.
Her apprenticeship was to have been completed two weeks ago and Racing Queensland officials originally rejected her application for an extension of time.
"Rachel helped me write a letter to RQ asking for an extension," Taylor said.
"They relented and I now have another six months of an apprenticeship.
"It is a great help because it means I can ride with a three kilos allowance and that certainly helped today.
"I really owe Rachel for the help."
Trainer Barry Baldwin is leaning to a one-hit attack on the Newcastle Cup (2300m) on September 19 with his stayer Flying Home who won the Coca-Cola Handicap (2120m).
Flying Home ($4) scored by 2-1/4 lengths from Za Magic ($19) with a half-neck to Saint Encosta ($11) in third.
Baldwin said he didn't think Flying Home would be up to a Group One race such as the Metropolitan at Randwick.
"The Newcastle Cup could be his go and I will see how tough the field looks before saying we will definitely go south," he said.
