A double to trainer David Vandyke and jockey Jay Ford with two imported French horses at Rosehill on Saturday has them both excited about the spring features.
Vandyke had entered both Prince Cheri and Less Is More in the Listed Premier's Cup (1800m) but the latter was the only one to gain a start.
Prince Cheri was the second emergency and was forced to run in a 1500m benchmark race leaving Less Is More to contest the Premier's Cup and allowing Ford to ride them both.
Vandyke is hoping to get Prince Cheri to the Caulfield Cup via the Naturalism Stakes at Caulfield but is likely to keep Less Is More in Sydney to head to the Metropolitan on October 5.
Ford had Less Is More, favourite at $3.80, midfield with Winning Glory ($14) taking up his customary front-running role.
Less Is More loomed up in the straight and took over from Winning Glory with Ironstein ($51) chasing.
The post came quickly enough for Less Is More who beat Ironstein by a long head with a length to Winning Glory.
Expensive import Michelangelo was up running second to the turn before compounding to finish last, almost 25 lengths from the winner.
"He came into the race fitter for his second to Winning Glory last time and dropping from 59 kilos to 54-1/2 certainly helped," Vandyke said.
"And how good is Jay riding.
"We'll look at the Kingston Town Stakes and the Metrop with him."
Both Prince Cheri and Less Is More were bought in Europe by stable supporter Angelo Vasili.
"Angelo got them both in France and I'm very grateful," Vandyke said.
"These overseas horses take a preparation to adapt to our conditions.
"You need to take gentle steps with them."
Gentle steps are likely to be taken with Michelangelo who trainer Gai Waterhouse's spokesman Mark Newnham said was an enigma and could be turned out with a view to starting again.
Veteran Ironstein will head to the Newcastle Cup with a view to returning to Melbourne where he won the Group Three Queen Elizabeth Stakes in 2011 and finished second last year to reigning Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune.
