Aliyana Tilde begins Caulfield Cup mission

Monday 2 September 2013, 4:38pm

Kerry Parker's quest to get Aliyana Tilde into the Caulfield Cup begins this weekend when the mare resumes in the Group Two Chelmsford Stakes against a crack field.

There are 16 nominations for Saturday's 1600m race at Randwick with nine Group One winners among them but Parker doesn't believe his mare is out of place.

The five-year-old has run in three Group One races and been placed in all of them including her last-start third behind Mourayan and Norsqui in the Sydney Cup (3200m).

She goes to the races without a barrier trial but with plenty of grounding at Kembla Grange where Parker is based.

"She has had a couple of 800 metre jump-outs at Kembla and is as forward as she needs to be," Parker said.

"She's bright and well and I'm looking forward to her return. It's hard to get a gauge on her at home because she is so relaxed and laid back so we need to get her to the races to see where she is at.

"The ultimate is to get her to the Caulfield Cup and if she can get there, I'm sure she will do well."

New Zealander Veyron, last-start winner of the Warwick Stakes, is the equal top rated horse in the weight-for-age Chelmsford on 112 alongside Foreteller, winner of the Ranvet Stakes.

Streama, who beat Aliyana Tilde in last year's Australian Oaks and ran a close second to Veyron at Warwick Farm, is next on 111 with Beaten Up on 110.

Doomben Cup winner Beaten Up is one of eight entries from the Chris Waller stable and also holds an entry to Saturday's Group One Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington as do Foreteller and Hawkspur.

Parker has also got Planet Purple entered in a 2000m benchmark 80 at Randwick with the seven-year-old holding a nomination for the Group Metropolitan (2400m) on October 5.

"They say we are going to have a wet spring so I thought we should get him back in work," Parker said.

"His best form is on wet tracks at Randwick."

Waller has four entered for the Tramway Stakes (1400m) which has been changed from a handicap to a set weights and penalties race.

Chelmsford entries Metal Bender and Royal Descent are dual nominated while Shoot Out and Sacred Falls are his other representatives.
