James McDonald's commitment to Whiskey Allround in the Danehill Stakes has prompted connections of Cauthen to bypass the Group Two race.
Trainer Andrew Campbell said they would stick to the original plan to run Cauthen in the Listed Henry Bucks (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.
The Danehill (1200m) came in for consideration after the New Zealand three-year-old claimed his first stakes win in the Listed McKenzie Stakes last Saturday week with the owners keen to get a Group win for Cauthen's future stud career.
But after talking with the owners, Campbell said they would stick to the path mapped out on the way to the Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 12.
"We're more than happy to stick with James because he knows the horse," Campbell said.
"We've hopefully qualified for the Caulfield Guineas.
Cauthen is on the second line of TAB's betting for the Caulfield Guineas at $6 alongside Fast 'N' with Prince Harada the $4.80 favourite.
Cauthen was a luckless second on his Australian debut at Moonee Valley last month before his McKenzie win at the same track and his trainer is looking forward to getting him to the wide open spaces of Flemington.
"He's crying out for the bigger tracks," Campbell said.
"James (McDonald) even said he was struggling getting around the corner a couple of times at Moonee Valley. I can't wait to see him on a roomier track."
Whiskey Allround was scratched from a planned first-up run in the San Domenico Stakes in Sydney due to a high white cell count but trainer Tony Gollan said the gelding had thrived since he arrived in Melbourne.
Gollan's association with McDonald has been a fruitful one with the jockey steering Temple Of Boom to a Galaxy win last year to give the Brisbane trainer his first Group One success.
McDonald will be reunited with Temple Of Boom at Flemington on Saturday in the Group Three Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m).
