Green Moon has runs on the board: Prebble

Tuesday 3 September 2013, 6:22pm

Brett Prebble, who has given up the first part of the Hong Kong racing season to ride for the Lloyd Williams stable during the spring carnival, says he is most excited about teaming up again with 2012 Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon.

"I wouldn't be getting off him yet," Prebble said.

"He is here, he is proven and his run on the weekend was fantastic.

"The rest of them have to put their hands up and show what they can do on Australian turf."

Prebble was speaking at the release of 135 nominations for the Melbourne Cup.

Green Moon is one of 12 Williams-owned nominations trained by Robert Hickmott.

He was on board Green Moon when the stayer ran fifth behind Atlantic Jewel in Saturday's Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.

However, Prebble stopped short of confirming Green Moon as his Melbourne Cup ride.

"Lloyd Williams has the nicest crop of horses ever going into a spring carnival," he said.

"But there is a lot of water to go under the bridge. If the horses come up and get to their true form then realistically he is going to have the strongest hand in the Melbourne Cup I have ever seen."

Prebble has also put his hand up to ride second favourite Fast `N' Rocking in the $1 million Golden Rose at Rosehill on September 14 and hopes Williams will give him a clearance to head north.

He rode the David Hayes-trained Fast `N' Rocking to a dramatic win in the McNeil Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday and copped a suspension in the process which will keep him out of this weekend's Makybe Diva Stakes meeting at Flemington.

"It's a million-dollar race and I'm pretty sure Lloyd wouldn't stop me from going to win a million-dollar race," he said.

"He's realistic, he's a businessman and I'm sure he would favour my option, hopefully."
