The sire of a legend supporting legends

Monday 9 September 2013, 12:18pm

LP Stallions in conjunction with Living Legends is proud to announce the donation of services to their three stallions – including Makybe Diva’s sire Desert King – to support the home of some of Australia’s finest retired racehorses.

Nominations to fellow LP managed stallions Golden Snake and Best Choice – whose half-brother, the Hong Kong sprinting legend Silent Witness is one of Living Legends’ most popular residents – are also on offer by tender from September 14 to 30.

Running for two weeks, the tender will raise funds to support the ongoing work of Living Legends whose CEO Dr Andrew Clarke is delighted to be working with LP Stallions.

“All at Living Legends are very grateful to Julie Nairn for the donation of the three services,” he said, adding that the stallions in question were “very appropriate” supporters of the farm.

“The highly successful Desert King is the sire of the legendary Makybe Diva whilst we are so fond of Best Choice’s champion half-brother Silent Witness who has attracted visitors not only from around Australia but from across the world including many from Hong Kong.”

Living Legends Chairman Martin O’Connor is also happy – “at a time when Living Legends can use all the help it can get, the offer by Julie Nairn of LP Stallions is gratefully acknowledged.”

“This is a time when we need the help of all owners, not just the owners of the resident horses who continue to assist.”

“It is even more appropriate given that Fields Of Omagh – who was the catalyst for establishing Living Legends – was foaled and reared at Lynden Park.”

“And we also thank Mr Winifred Ng and Mr Apollo Ng for their support with Best Choice.”

LP Stallions have connections with another of Living Legends’ horses – the great sprinter Apache Cat conceived there.

“We derived great pleasure from following the careers of Fields Of Omagh and Apache Cat and we continue to keep in touch with their breeders and owners,” Julie Nairn said.

“It is wonderful that they have found such a great home at Living Legends.”

“We are all so appreciative of the work Living Legends do and it has been wonderful to see the horses out and about visiting schools and hospitals, promoting racing in such a positive way – and we hope that can continue long into the future.”

Nairn also notes that many of Living Legends’ champions are horses who were bred by smaller breeders, the “backbone of our industry” and the market she and these stallions support.

“From small beginnings champions grow,” she said, adding that the donation of the services fees will enable “small breeders to work together to support a great concept.”

A special thanks also goes to Ridgeview Park, home to Golden Snake and Best Choice – who have also generously offered a nomination to another of their young stallions in Dr Doute’s – an imposing Group Three winning son of Australia’s most prominent sire of sires Redoute’s Choice.

“We are delighted that we can help out Living Legends this spring,” said the stud’s Phil & Fiona Sloane, “they do a wonderful job not only looking after retired stars but promoting racing.”

Lauriston Park’s Chris Bakker – who welcomed Desert King to his picturesque farm this season – is also happy to be supporting Living Legends, his own farm home to one of the greats of the Australian turf in Let’s Elope.

“These horses deserve the wonderful retirements that Living Legends give them,” he said.

Tenders can be made from September 14 through to September 30 via email to Living Legends at: aclarke@livinglegends.org.au or info@livinglegends.org.au

Meanwhile donations of any amount can be made securely on line to Living Legends via http://www.livinglegends.org.au/help-us/

(Conditions apply to nominations – mares already booked into the stallions will not be eligible, free return upon payment of service fee to Living Legends due on a positive 45 day test).

“Support our champions and put in a bid – no matter how big or small, it all matters and is much appreciated,” said Nairn.
