Le Bonsir surprises Price with Listed win

Saturday 14 September 2013, 6:05pm

Le Bonsir showed his liking for the Moonee Valley course on Saturday as he posted a Listed win which surprised trainer Mick Price.

The six-year-old gelding had won two of his four starts at Moonee Valley but had never raced at stakes level until Price gave him his chance in Saturday's Listed Drummond Golf Stakes (1200m) after a first-up win at the track.

Le Bonsir ($19) defeated the resuming Rekindled Interest ($41) by 1-1/2 lengths with another three-quarters of a length to the fast-finishing It Is Written ($5).

"He did surprise me," Price admitted.

"I would not have been able to say to you he's that good that he'll finish off as fast as he did. But I thought he did a super job."

Price said Le Bonsir had been placed to advantage in his 20 starts which have netted eight wins and six placings.

The Caulfield trainer isn't sure where to head next with Le Bonsir but Jim Conlan's plans with comeback galloper Rekindled Interest are more certain after he turned in a pleasing run in his first start since last year's Cox Plate.

Conlan is planning on running Rekindled Interest in the Group One Epsom (1600m) in Sydney in three weeks before a third attempt at winning a Cox Plate three weeks later.

"That's as good as he's ever gone first-up," Conlan said.
