Blake Shinn has played an integral part in the Epsom Handicap preparations of Guy Walter-trained stablemates Toydini and Streama but his chances of riding either in the big race rest with a rival trainer.
Chris Waller will monitor the progress of Shoot Out over the coming days to determine whether he takes his place in the field on October 5 as topweight.
If Shoot Out doesn't run, handicaps will go up a kilo and Toydini will rise to 54kg and Streama to 54.5kg, weights within Shinn's range.
Shinn steered Toydini to victory in Wednesday's Cameron Handicap at Newcastle and was aboard Streama when she claimed Saturday's Group One George Main Stakes at Randwick.
Shoot Out ran last of the nine George Main runners, beaten 4-1/2 lengths, causing a re-think of his Epsom ambitions.
Hugh Bowman, who steered Streama to the first two of her Group One wins, was aboard Shoot Out, giving Shinn his first race ride on the mare.
But Shinn's preferred option is to ride the progressive Toydini in the Epsom (1600m).
"He has been my horse all the way through," Shinn said.
"I rode him all the way through the autumn and I think he is the ideal Epsom horse."
Punters agree, with Toydini the $6 equal favourite alongside the Waller-trained Boban, winner of Saturday's Bill Ritchie Handicap.
Streama is at $8 for what will be her spring swan song with Walter planning to give her a break and bring her back for the Doncaster in the autumn.
Toydini was a winner as a two-year-old but came into his own after being gelded during his autumn as a three-year-old with Group wins in the Phar Lap and Carbine Club Stakes.
"He is a much improved horse since he has been gelded," Walter said.
"He is a very big horse and wasn't fulfilling his potential as a colt.
"It has changed him around."
