Tegan Harrison outed for careless riding

Wednesday 25 September 2013, 6:00pm

Apprentice Tegan Harrison has been suspended for careless riding after stewards completed an inquiry from last Saturday's Eagle Farm meeting.

Stewards adjourned the inquiry last Saturday because Tim Bell, who was central to the hearing, had to leave the course to ride at the Sunshine Coast night meeting.

At a reconvened hearing before the first race on Wednesday, Harrison was suspended for six meetings which starts after she completes her rides at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

She will return to the saddle at at Ipswich on October 7.

Stewards found Harrison guilty of allowing Theft to shift out near the 100-metre mark in the Coca-Cola Handicap causing D'Jet, ridden by Bell, to become unbalanced and blunder.

Acting chief steward Daniel Aurisch told Harrison her improved riding record in recent months, after a spate of suspensions last year, had saved her from a harsher penalty.

"The way you've conducted yourself at this inquiry and in general outside the stewards room since you've returned after some time away from racing this year is a credit to you," Aurisch said.

Harrison entered a self-imposed exile at the end of the last racing season to deal with personal matters but has been in sparking form in recent weeks and is in third place on the Brisbane jockeys' premiership behind Chris Munce and Glen Colless.
