Ben Melham suspended for careless riding

Saturday 28 September 2013, 5:56pm

Ben Melham is set to miss Turnbull Stakes day after being suspended for careless riding at Mornington on Saturday.

Melham pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge aboard Nadhima in the Gripple Hang-Fast Handicap (1200m) but asked stewards to take into account he had "a really good book of rides" next Saturday at Flemington when considering the matter.

Stewards, however, ruled the level of carelessness was in the mid range and handed Melham an 11-meeting ban which is due to start after Sunday's Caulfield meeting.

Melham's rides for next Saturday included Thousand Guineas-bound filly Politeness in the Edward Manifold Stakes.
