At Dynamic Syndications, we have a group of excited owners in our 2yo filly BERGDORF who will compete in the GIMCRACK STAKES a Listed Race for 2yo Fillies under Set Weights of 56.0kgs. Unfortunately she has drawn poorly in barrier 12 and will need luck from the barrier but to offset the draw, we have the services of leading jockey Hugh Bowman.
BERGDORF (2yo Chestnut Filly by MANHATTAN RAIN ex MISS EXCELLENCE) is trained by Australia’s Leading Trainer CHRIS WALLER at ROSEHILL.
An outstanding looking individual, there is little doubt she will be the pick of the yard in the pre-race parade. Big, strong and conformationally correct, the flashy looking chestnut will be an eye catcher.
Shares in Bergdorf were snapped up quickly due to her highly sought after pedigree. She was advertised on Bloodstock.com.au where shares flew out the door, quickly filling all the spots avaliable.
Foaled on the 1st August, this is a huge advantage for 2yo racing.
BERGDORF’S dam is Miss Excellence. She is an unraced Full Sister to Dynamic’s own Blue Diamond winner REWARD FOR EFFORT.
Miss Excellence is a ¾ sister to this year’s Golden Slipper Winner OVERREACH.
Miss Excellence is a daughter of Stakes Winning Rory’s Jester mare MISS PROSPECT
Miss Excellence is by Champion First Season Sire and also last season’s Champion Sire EXCEED AND EXCEL.
MANHATTAN RAIN is the Sire of our filly. The Arrowfield Stud based stallion is a first crop sire who as a racehorse, was 2nd on the Australasian 2yo Classification and was Champion 2yo colt, having won the AJC Sires Produce Gr1and Skyline Stakes Gr3 and ran 3rd in the Golden Slipper Gr1, and Champagne Stakes Gr1. He went on as a 3yo to run 2nd in the MVRC Cox Plate Gr1 and 3rd in the Caulfield Guineas Gr1.
MANHATTAN RAIN is also a ½ brother to Champion Sire REDOUTE’S CHOICE.
Leading into this event BERGDORF has had the luxury of two easy barrier trials. Deliberately planned to miss the Official 2yo trials, and trial either side of that date, she has run close up seconds on both occasions without being tested. Typical of Chris Waller trained horses, there is no prizemoney in winning trials and the purpose for barrier trials is to teach young horses racecraft.
On both occasions she jumped quickly and could have easily led but she was restrained deep without cover, teaching her to track up behind runners and extend.
In her first trial, she dashed around the field and hit the front on straightening before the brakes were applied and allowed to coast. A hard ridden colt out wide nabbed her on the line.
In her second trial, she was restrained until the 100m giving 3 lengths start to the leader and then knuckled down and rallied strongly with her best work the final 50m to miss out by a nose.
Both trials were valuable experiences and allowed her to earn race craft and race fitness without over taxing the filly. There is little doubt the further they run the stronger on the line she will be.
WALLER Said: "We don't usually have a lot of early 2yo runners but BERGDORF is there and ready to go. She's not a natural 2yo but has good ability. I doubt we will be walking away with a winner but it's important for the owners to get her there and have a chance to get some Black-Type".
WHAT'S IN A NAME? - BERGDORF is named after the famous department store BERGDORF GOODMANS on 5th Avenue New York. This store is world renowned for offering the "best of the best" when it comes to ladies jewellery, fashions and accessories.
Being by MANHATTAN RAIN from MISS EXCELLENCE there could not be a better racing name for a filly bred this way.
We wish our Dynamic owners of BERGDORF good luck over the coming days. It’s always exciting to have a 2yo runner, especially in the first 2yo race of the year, however a day is a very long time in the life of a 2yo at this stage, to ensure they don’t go over the top mentally or develop shin soreness or viruses. So if we can line up on Saturday, it will be the start of a promising journey for our clients.
So win, lose or draw, just by lining up on Saturday, it is the start of a promising journey for our clients.
However there are never any guarantees in the racing industry. All we can do is reduce risks and have planned to place our filly in the right trials to give her a chance at being competitive in this black type event. Now, having drawn poorly, it’s up to the skills of Hugh Bowman and the filly herself to display her best. There is no doubt that if the racing gods are kind and we have just average luck in running, the filly should be competitive.
We wish our Owners, Trainer Chris Waller and Jockey Hugh Bowman the very best of luck with BERGDORF.
