Jockey Glyn Schofield says the key to riding leading Epsom contender Boban is making sure the gelding doesn't overrace in the middle stages.
Boban is one of three Chris Waller-trained horses running in the famous Randwick mile on Saturday and has been swapping favouritism with Toydini for the past week.
The four-year-old has won his past two starts under Schofield who thinks the horse is ready for his first Group One test after cementing his place in the field with victory in the Bill Ritchie Handicap.
"I'd like to think he's on his way up," Schofield said.
Boban's faces a big step up in Saturday's $500,000 race from his Group Three win but that does not faze his trainer or Schofield.
They are buoyed by the horse's most recent performance in the Bill Ritchie at Randwick which he won by almost four lengths on September 21.
Boban is returning to Randwick for the Epsom (1600m) as a $5 chance in a race run on what is one of the toughest courses in the country.
Schofield is aware of the pressure for Boban to meet expectations.
"He's not the finished article, everyone knows that," he said.
"This is his toughest race to date."
The jockey is also prepared for Boban's tendency to overrace and the pressure to get into a good position from barrier 11.
"No rush early on," he said.
"He is strong early so I'll try to ride him accordingly."
Trainer Chris Waller is confident Boban is in the right hands with Schofield.
"He's done a great job with this horse," he said. "He's got great hands."
