Tim Clark has narrowed down Saturday's Group One Epsom Handicap to five chances and he reckons his mount Sizzling is one of them.
The Queensland four-year-old is yet to be seen at the peak of his powers outside his home state where he has won seven races, six of them at stakes level.
But if he brings his best form to Randwick on Saturday, Clark has no doubt Sizzling is among the leading Epsom chances, which he believes are clearcut.
"Toydini, Streama, Lidari and Boban. They're the four standouts," Clark said.
"I think Sizzling will be able to match it with them. I don't think we've seen the best of him in Sydney yet."
Sizzling has had three lead-up runs in Sydney and Clark has been aboard for all.
He was thrilled with the horse's first-up seventh to subsequent Group One winner Rebel Dane in the Show County Quality and his close-up fifth in the Tramway Stakes.
But he was underwhelmed by his last start fourth to Boban in the Bill Ritchie.
It subsequently emerged that Sizzling had some feet issues which impacted that effort and trainer Kelso Wood is satisfied those have been fixed.
"His first two runs were really good. I thought he was pretty disappointing the other day but he did pull up with a few issues and if they've been rectified he is a chance on his best form," Clark said.
Sizzling has drawn barrier three, an ideal gate for most horses.
However, he does appreciate galloping room and being a backmarker, Clark concedes Sizzling's chances will be dependant on tempo.
"He does like to have a bit of room so I will need to negotiate a path to give him a bit of galloping room," Clark said.
"He needs the pace to be pretty genuine.
"I've got no queries about the mile. The one thing he will do is run the trip out strongly."
