The Darley team has another Group Two Sandown Guineas in its sights after the Peter Snowden-trained Paximadia led all the way in the Listed Yellowglen Vintage Stakes at Flemington.
Melbourne stable foreman Paul Snowden said Paximadia, the $3 favourite, will take on the Group Three Carbine Club Stakes on Victoria Derby Day followed by the $350,000 Sandown Guineas two weeks later at Caulfield.
Darley has a great record in the Guineas, winning three of the last five, including last year's edition with Tatra.
Paximadia, with Sydney jockey Nash Rawiller aboard, overcame a wide barrier to lead when the field settled.
I Am Titanium ($9) made a late run but wasn't good enough to catch the leader who won by a length with another Darley colt, Champollion, a nose away third.
Snowden said Paximadia had improved a lot from his two-race campaign in Brisbane during the winter carnival.
"Physically he has improved a lot and he is going to get better next run," Snowden said.
"It worked into our hands today, going forward, he backed off mid-stages and was able to be strong on the line."
Rawiller said Paximadia jumped in the air when the gates opened but found his feet within two strides and was out of trouble.
"He still has freshness on his side and this outing will take the edge off him," Rawiller said.
